BWC- Whistling Ducks (Day 5)

Botanical Gardens is one of the few places you can see Whistling Ducks (Dendrocygninae) in Singapore. The Eco-lake located in the gardens is home to a huge group of these ducks and a stunning Black Swan.

Two species, namely the Lesser Whistling Duck (Dendrocygna javanica) and the Wandering Whistling Duck (D.arcuata) can be found together. There are subtle differences between the two, and the one in the foreground of this photograph is the Lesser Whistling Duck as it has a distinctive yellow ring around its eye.

These ducks are always on the lookout for humans to feed them, however, I enjoy just watching them swim and clean each other’s feathers. My visit today to the Botanical Gardens proved to be fruitful– the ducks, my first sighting in the park, turned to be good luck! Look out for more on my experience.
